The ACG is excited to host SSIM 2027 in the capital city of Queensland – Brisbane.

Brisbane offers something for everyone, from modern city style activities such as shopping, nightlife, museums and galleries, through to more outdoors and adventure experiences like snorkelling, diving, boating, fishing, hiking and more.

  • South Bank – a vibrant cultural centre with refreshing swimming spots, delicious cafes and renowned restaurants, all a Brisbane River backdrop.
  • Story Bridge Adventure Climb – from dawn to dusk and twilight climbs, you’ll experience breathtaking views of Brisbane’s skyline, the Glass House Mountains, Moreton Bay, and the Scenic Rim.
  • Brisbane Arcade – built in 1923, the heritage-listed Brisbane Arcade is one of the city’s oldest shopping destinations, reflecting the elegance of its award-winning fashion designers, manufacturer jewellers, antique and gift stores.
  • River kayaking, abseiling or cycling – Riverlife Adventure Centre is only a short ferry ride from Brisbane’s CBD and can help you out with all of these activities.

Near Brisbane

In and around the Brisbane area, there are many locations and sights worth visiting. 

A short ferry ride away is Stradbroke Island featuring cliffside walks, bushland, Australian wildlife, and stunning beaches. 

The Redlands Coast offers a bright and breezy coastal escape located only a 40-minute drive from Brisbane’s CBD. The region’s rich history and stunning location, provides no shortage of surprising and delightful experiences to enjoy.

Queensland’s oldest provincial city, Ipswich offers an abundance of experiences that span across history exploration, nature immersion and family fun.

From seaside bars to indulgent wine tours, strawberry picking to whale watching, the Moreton Bay Region truly has it all. 

Brisbane weather

Visitors to Brisbane in September can expect warm, pleasant spring weather—one of the city’s most comfortable times of year. Days are typically sunny with average temperatures ranging from the mid-teens to mid-20s °C.

Humidity is low, rain is infrequent, and cool evenings make it ideal for outdoor activities, sightseeing, and exploring the city’s parks and riverfront. Perfect T-shirt weather without the summer heat!

 

Arriving from the airport

There are several options to get from the Airport to the Central Business District (CBD). Taxi or ride-share services are available at the airport. Pre-booked shuttles and private airport transfers are also available.

AirTrain

From the Brisbane Airport, board the Airtrain for a direct transfer to The City, approximately a 20-minute journey. Brisbane’s Airtrain is fully accessible, with lift access, level boarding, dedicated spaces for wheelchairs and prams, and station staff on hand to provide support.

Getting around in Brisbane

Public Transport

Brisbane’s public transport system, Translink, offers a clean and green network of busses, trains, ferries (CityCats), all integrated so you can travel seamlessly between each service. Public transport fares include a 50-cent flat rate across all zones and modes of transport across the Translink network, offering an affordable and easy way to travel within Brisbane.

Smart Ticketing is available on all public transport, allowing passengers to tap on and off with contactless credit or debit cards, including cards stored in smartphone digital wallets. Go cards, Brisbane’s electronic tickets, can be purchased and topped up at selected retailers, online, or via the Translink app. They can also be managed easily through the Translink website or app. For enquiries regarding public transport or to plan your journey, visit the Translink website.

Taxis

Taxi ranks are available at the Brisbane international and domestic airports, as well as throughout The City and inner-city precincts. Ride in a taxi to be assured of a quick and efficient way of getting around Brisbane. A standard taxi will cater for four passengers or fewer. Rideshare

Brisbane rideshare options include popular services like Uber, DiDi, Ola and Shebah, with bookings and payments processed through their respective mobile apps. These services offer convenient, on-demand transport across the city and suburbs, operating 24/7. Many rideshare vehicles also offer accessible options, and some services provide pet-friendly or women-only rides for added comfort and safety.

 

The ACG acknowledges and pays respect to the Jagera and Turrbal peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which this conference will be held, honoring their connection to the land, waters, and culture.
